The project, located in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, is intended to provide a hurricane evacuation route across the Intracoastal Waterway on State Route 308. During high tidal waves, the present pontoon bridge has had to be opened and tied down to prevent flooding, thereby stopping all vehicular traffic from using State Route 308. A high level fixed bridge will prevent the resulting spoiling of perishables in the seafood industry. In general, the project will not have any significant negative effects.
