Whitmans Pond Dam is a concrete gravity structure consisting of three basic components: a fish ladder at the left abutment; a 24 ft. long ogee shaped overflow section located just to the right of the fish ladder; and a siphon spillway structure located just right of the overflow section and extending to the right abutment. The routed test flood outflow of 5,100 cfs overtops the dam by 2.7 ft. The spillways can pass 3,150 cfs or about 62 percent of the routed test flood outflow without overtopping the dam. The dam and appurtenant works are judged to be in good physical condition, however, because the spillway can only pass 62 percent of the routed test flood outflow, the dam was given an overall rating of fair. The only problem with the physical condition of the dam is the erosion downstream of each abutment.
