A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Racine Project No. 2570-Ohio/West Virginia
A license is sought to construct a 40-mw hydroelectric project at the east (Ohio) end of the U.S. Corps of Engineers' Racine Locks and Dam project located on the Ohio River in Meigs County, Ohio. Utilizing riverflows not required for navigational purposes, the project would generate electricity by means of two bulb-type Kaplan turbines. The project would release sufficient water to maintain at all times a minimum river-flow of 6,300 cfs as measured immediately below the Racine dam, when available from stream inflow or water in storage. Project construction and operation as proposed in the application for license are not expected to have any significant adverse impacts on the environment.
