The North Carolina Division of Highways proposes to construct a new interstate highway facility, Interstate Route 40, from existing Interstate Route 85 west of the city of Durham to existing Interstate Route 40 southeast of the city of Durham. The project is located in Durham and Orange Counties in north central North Carolina. The project provides an important 'missing link' in the interstate system in North Carolina and will provide a bypass of the City of Durham. The project will also involve the relocation of approximately 107 families and 40 businesses.
