This report provides a supplementary commentary to the newly revised Army field manual, FM 3-34.343, 'Military Nonstandard Fixed Bridging', which was published by Headquarters, Department of the Army, on 12 February 2002. Past editions of Technical and Field Manuals for the military have had no documentation or references by which the content could be verified or checked. 41 an effort to alleviate this problem, the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) has prepared this commentary on Chapter 3, 'Classification', and Chapter 6, 'Design of Bridge Superstructures', which were the only chapters written by the ERDC. This report provides a detailed explanation/derivation of all simplified methodologies and equations within those chapters.
