Colfax Bypass, Whitman County, Washington, Project F-037-1 and F-037-2
Three projects are involved in this environmental study. A corridor is to be selected for State Route 195, an improvement of State Route 127 to complement the above project is planned and the construction of a bypass around Colfax is considered. Although the proposed construction will detract from the natural landscape, by minimizing excavation and embankment areas, controlling erosion, and vegetating slopes, the chosen corridor should contain a highway which will blend into the surrounding area with a minimum of distraction. Air pollution and noise will be noticeably increased in the vicinity of the new facility, but much of this pollution will be removed from the city streets in Colfax, where it would be most harmful to human health.
