Preservation Plan for the Chalmette Monument, Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, Louisiana
The primary goal of the Preservation Architects was to develop a realistic plan for the stabilization and conservation of the Chalmette Monument and its maintenance into the future. The parameters accepted maximized the use of personal onsite inspection and evaluation by the Preservation Architects and their survey team. The proposed plan should focus on the critical issues important to the longevity of the monument. The physical components of these issues, such as roof system, exterior walls, interior walls, observation deck details, central column, iron stair details, surface finishes, connection details, steps, openings and their respective composite details, foundations above and below grade and site condition should be evaluated in relationship to the overall monument conservation. The resultant plan should stress the need for a complete systems analysis and its direct linkage to the Preservation Plan for the Chalmette Monument.
