Structural Behavior Analysis Glen Canyon Dam for October 5, 1964 and February 20, 1965
Strain meter clusters, 'no-stress' strain meter pairs, stress meters, joint meters, deformation meters, and resistance thermometers were embedded in the mass concrete of Glen Canyon Dam during construction. At about the time of completion of the dam, five plumblines were suspended from approximately the crest to the foundation of the dam in 12-in.-dia wells formed in the concrete. Rock deformation gages were installed in 2 abutment tunnels driven into each canyon wall. Periodic readings of the instruments were made and the readings reduced to stresses, deflections, deformations, and temperatures. This report presents the stresses, deformations, deflections, and temperatures of Glen Canyon Dam and abutment rock for a reservoir water surface elevation of 3491 and for varying concrete temperatures for the dates October 5, 1964, and February 20, 1965.
