Section 202, p. L.96-367, Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act (October 1980) authorized design and construction of flood control measures for communities affected by the April 1977 flood on the Tug Fork of the Big Sandy River. Seventeen of these structures (MO 86, MO 87, MO 88-103) are located in Borderland and the Coal Heritage Survey has recommended this area as a potential National Register District. This report documents the historic and architectural significance of the brick residences of Borderland, potentially eligible to the National Register of Historic Places.
