Residential Ventilation Systems
As in other states of the U.S., efforts have been taken in both New York and California to improve the energy efficiency of new single family home construction. Both states have in place state energy codes and a variety of building efficiency programs and rebates. New York builders could previosuly take part in the NYSE-Star builder incentive program sponsored by a consortium of New York State utilities and energy agencies. Of interest is what effect these codes and building practices have on building tightness levels and correspondingly, house ventilation air flowrates in relationship to the ASHRAE Ventilation Standard 62-1989, which states that operable windows or intentional ventilation strategies may be used to provide ventilation. This project was developed to look at these and other issues regarding air tightness and ventilation in New York and California houses.
