Comprehensive Plan - Fort Dodge, Iowa
Fort Dodge, Iowa, with a 1970 estimated population of approximately 34,000, is located in the north central section of the state along the banks of the Des Moines River. The 1970 Comprehensive Plan represents a revision and updating of a previous planning study completed in 1960. The Land Use Plan designates land areas in which future residential, public, commercial and industrial growth is likely to occur in light of a current analysis of the area's economic and population characteristics. Particular emphasis is given to future planning and development of the central business district and a system of major highways serving the greater Fort Dodge urban area. The Iowa State Highway Commission, with the assistance of the Bureau of Public Roads, contributed a major portion of the transportation phase of the planning report. A study and analysis of housing conditions and neighborhood blighting influence is included in the 1970 report on the city's revised Comprehensive Plan. (Author)
