The project, located near Ellensburg, Washington, in Kittitas County, involves rehabilitation of a diversion dam on the Yakima River, a new inlet to the irrigation canal, construction of a fish ladder on the dam, installation of a fish screen and bypass pipe, reshaping 14,100 feet of canal and lining with concrete, and construction of a pumping plant. Increased flow of water will improve the fishery. Installation of a buried bypass pipe will reduce fish losses. The Cascade irrigation district will be assured of a reliable and adequate supply of water. Rehabilitation of the dam will enhance river floating conditions and increase safety for river boating. Concrete lining the canal will result in a reduction of wildlife use.
