Proposed Rehabilitation and Betterment Program Cascade Irrigation District, Washington
The project involves rehabilitation of a diversion dam on the Yakima River, a new inlet to the irrigation canal, construction of a fish ladder on the dam and installation of a fish screen and bypass pipe, reshaping 14,100 feet of canal and lining with concrete, and construction of a pumping plant. Five miles of the Yakima River will have an increase flow of 150 c.f.s. This will improve the fishery. Construction of the fish ladder will enhance anadromous fish spawning upstream from the dam. Installation of an improved fish screen in the new inlet will reduce fish losses. The Cascade Irrigation District will have an adequate supply of water. Rehabilitation of the dam will enhance floating conditions and increase safety to floaters. Concrete lining 14,100 feet of canal will result in a reduction of wildlife use through a decrease in accessibility.
