Cultural Resources Inventory of the Lockerman Timber Compartment, Butte and Plumas Counties, California
This report is based on an approximately 6800 acre archaeological inventory of the Lockerman Timber Compartment, Plumas National Forest, Butte and Plumas Counties, California. The survey resulted in the recording of 77 sites. Of these 64 sites were aboriginal with eleven sites also having an historic component. Thirteen single component historic sites were found. At least six major midden sites were found, several of which are known to have continuity of use from at least protohistoric into historic times. It is likely that these sites as well as associated bedrock mortar and lithic scatter sites represent a well-preserved example of the ethnographically known Maidu village-community settlement system, with a range of sites representing the seasonal subsistence pattern.
