Dardanelle Lock and Dam, Arkansas River, Arkansas; Hydraulic Model Investigation
Tests were conducted on a 1:120-scale comprehensive model to determine the relative merits of several possible arrangements of the structures constituting the control section of the dam. Alternate lock guide-wall designs also were investigated in this model, and a short series of tests was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of floating guide booms in the reservoir for collecting and passing drift. A 1:50-scale spillway and stilling basin section model was constructed in order to measure discharge, water-surface elevation, and pressures, and to test and improve the stilling basin design.
