A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The recommendation to eliminate closure pours on tie-strips was made for bridge widenings incorporating simple span, steel girder main supports. This conclusion was derived through the instrumentation of bridges to provide for test and control specimens for concrete to reinforcement bar bond tests and beams differential and absolute deflection measurements. Visual inspections of 23 bridges that did and did not utilize closure pours was also performed. Study findings indicated no adverse effects could be attributed to the curing or performance of freshly placed concrete on widened bridges from the maintainment of traffic adjacent to construction.
