Anthony Lakes Recreation Area in Oregon. Wallowa-Whitman National Forest
Major relocation of recreation activities and the sites in use is necessary to partially restore the scenic quality of the lake basin setting, reduce further site deterioration, and still accommodate the recreation use now present and also anticipated in the future. The proposed expansion of the adjacent ski area by a private corporation is providing potential conflicts between winter ski area land allocation and summer aesthetics. This proposal will improve the quality of recreation experiences, both summer and winter, in the Anthony Lake Basin. Expansion will provide additional jobs and increased revenue to the northeast Oregon area, especially Baker Valley. The primary adverse effect will be the visual impact of additional developments including buildings, parking and ski runs on land parcels not yet utilized.
