Home Alone in 1989. Current Housing Reports
The report presents demographic, economic, and housing characteristics of persons living alone in their homes. The data were collected in the 1989 American Housing Survey (AHS). The AHS is a biennial national sample survey of 49,400 housing units conducted by the Bureau of the Census for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The detailed data included in tables 1 through 4 provide information for all nonfamily households, with data for the principle part of this group, householders living alone, separately identified. Householders living exclusively with nonrelatives are the other portion of nonfamily households. The primary focus of these data is on the United States as a whole, although some tables also show data by region and metropolitan residence.
