An Interim Report on Selected Housing Problems and Opportunities
A major emphasis of study was to examine the efforts and influences effecting the supply of low income and elderly housing in the Black River-St. Lawrence Region. The two major influences identified were: governmentally assisted housing and the increasing use of mobile homes. Most governmentally assisted housing in the Region is public housing, of which two-thirds is for the elderly. Two main findings were that demand far outstrips what is available, and that the demand for elderly housing is tremendously dispersed in the region. Other matters treated in the report were the increasing utilization of mobile homes and the probable effects of such a phenomenon, and analysis of the seasonal home trend in the region, and housing rehabilitation.
