The report describes the proposal of a two-lane high level bridge and approaches located in the vicinity of Vero Beach, Indian River County, on the east coast of central Florida. The 2 mile project, of which approximately 1 mile is bridge, begins at State Road 5 (U.S. 1) on the mainland, spans a coastal river (slong which the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway is routed) and connects to State Road A1A, a scenic coastline highway at the shore of the Atlantic Ocean. The project also includes a short (approximately 0.6 mile) Downtown Connector Road along existing right-of-way between the west end of the bridge and the central business section. A brief summary of adverse and beneficial environmental effects is included.
