Cultural Resource Assessment of Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita County, Texas
A cultural resource assessment of prehistoric and historic resources was conducted for Sheppard Air Force Base on July 14-16, baseline survey requested by headquarters Air Education and Training Command. The assessment included an archeological reconnaissance survey of the base and identification of buildings and structures built between 1928 and 1950. The base contains 5,056 acres which were inspected during the reconnaissance level survey. No archeological resources were identified. The base also contains 1,493 facilities including 1,159 buildings and structures. Of these, 19 permanent facilities, 54 semi-permanent facilities, and 18 auxilliary facilities were constructed between 1928 and 1950.
