Flood Protection on Cayuga Island at and in the Vicinity of Little River and Cayuga Creek, Niagara County, New York
The approved project provides local flood protection on Cayuga Island in the City of Niagara Falls, Niagara County, New York. The plan of improvement provides for the water-proofing of existing sanitary sewer manholes whose covers are below design flood stage, constructing a compacted embankment levee, the filling of low areas, the building of reinforced concrete manholes, installing sluice gates on storm sewers, and the construction of a storm sewer. It was determined that no long term adverse environmental impact would occur. However, unavoidable impact includes the lose of approximately eighty trees of varying sizes and species, as well as some play area of a public park. Some residents will be effectively denied use of their backyards during the period construction is in progress.
