Highway Construction in Coastal Areas. Part II. Ecological Considerations for Highways in Coastal Wetlands
A review of 512 scientific papers dealing with various aspects of coastal ecology and construction activities therein, yielded recommendations for: planning; reducing adverse impacts of roadways; research; and resource material. A dearth of paper documenting specific effects of roadways was found. Therefore, a synthesis of ecological principles was attempted with particular reference to known and predicted effects of roadway construction in the coastal zone.
