A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
There are seven coal fired power plants and coal storage piles located at the Savannah River Plant (SRP) operated by DuPont. Seven Coal Pile Runoff Containment Basins (CPRBs), located in Areas A, C, D, F, H, K, and P, were constructed between 1978 and 1981 at the SRP to prevent the direct discharge of stormwater runoff from the coal storage piles to local tributaries and to allow for the settling of suspended solids associated with coal pile runoff. The design of these basins was intended to provide equalization, neutralization, and slow seepage of the runoff through the basin, where the runoff can undergo natural renovation and dilution. There has historically been essentially no surface discharge from the CPRBs to nearby surface waters. The coal storage piles in C and F-Areas were removed in 1985, and the D and F-Area CPRBs have been deactivated. The purpose of this Ground Water Impact Assessment Report is to compile and assess the hydrogeologic and ground water chemical characterization data which have been generated for seven CPRBs.
