Penn-Susquehanna Urban Renewal Project, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
The city of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania has been designated as a disaster project; its official name is the Penn-Susquehanna Urban Renewal Project. The project involves acquiring property, removing structures as outlined in the plan, construction site improvements and disposal of property acquired by selling land for uses outlined in the plan. Redevelopment of the project area is proposed for residential and commercial, and public uses. Certain streets and alleys are to be vacated; other streets and alleys are to be improved by redesign, widening, extension and other treatment. There will be reconstruction of certain utilities, as required by the redesign of public streets and by the requirements of new land uses. Emphasis is placed upon the development of adequate off-street parking and loading areas by developers. Flood planning efforts of State, Federal and local agencies, especially those concerning the Susquehanna River, are reflected in the plan, so that project redevelopment can occur with maximum coordination of flood planning and flood prevention activities. Environmental impacts and adverse effects are discussed.
