Annual Housing Survey: 1982. Housing Characteristics for Selected Metropolitan Areas: New Orleans, Louisiana. Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area
This report presents statistics on housing and household characteristics for the New Orleans Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area, based on data from the 1982 Annual Housing Survey. Data tables cover the size and composition of the housing inventory, the characteristics of its occupants, the changes in the inventory resulting from new construction and from losses, the indicators of housing and neighborhood quality, and the characteristics of recent movers. Information came from personal interviews from April 1982 through December 1982. The statistics are based on a sample of about 4,250 housing units, divided between the central city and the balance of the area based on the proportionate distribution of all housing units in the area. New Orleans had about 460,000 housing units in October 1982, a net gain of 39,000 housing units over the 1978 estimate. About 8 percent of the total housing stock was constructed since the 1978 survey. Maps are included. Appendixes present the survey questionnaire and explanations of the survey methodology.
