Annual Housing Survey: 1974. United States and Regions. Part A: General Housing Characteristics
The Annual Housing Survey was designed to provide current information on the size and composition of the U.S. housing inventory, the characteristics of its occupants, the changes in inventory resulting from new construction and from losses, indicators of housing and neighborhood quality, and the characteristics of recent movers. This 1974 advance housing survey report presents statistics on general housing characteristics by inside and outside standard metropolitan statistical areas and each of four geographic areas -- west, north central, south, and northeast. The report statistics are derived from a sample of 78,000 housing units located throughout the country, and data on income relate to that of the family or primary individual. A series of standard tables presents simple distributions of the data on housing units for each area in this report. Table 1 gives characteristics of all housing units -- tenure, race of occupants, vacancy status, extent of plumbing facilities, bathrooms, kitchen facilities, heating equipment, bedrooms, number of rooms, numbers and ages of occupants, and income of household. Table 2 presents the same characteristics for new construction units, and Tables 3 and 4 provide data on characteristics for owner - and renter - occupied units with black head of household and Hispanic head of household. Appendices contain geographic area classification and definitions, explanations of the subjects covered, and information on sample design, estimation, and data accuracy.
