This report from the 1983 Annual Housing Survey presents statistics on general characteristics for the housing inside and outside Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas (SMSA's) and in each of the four geographic regions. The tables present selected housing characteristics for 1983 and 1970, characteristics of mobile homes and trailers, characteristics of new construction units, characteristics of housing units removed from the inventory, and selected characteristics of year-round vacant housing units. Characteristics include tenure, race, and vacancy status; plumbing facilities; units in the structure; kitchen facilities; rooms; heating; air conditioning; interior walls and ceiling conditions; household composition; education of householders; income; monthly housing costs; and other features. Data are presented for all races, black householders, and householders of Spanish origin. Maps, the survey instrument, and a table-finding guide are included.
