West San Gabriel Valley Area General Plan: Background Report
The West San Gabriel Valley is today a predominantly urbanized, single-family residential setting. By 1985, the population of 668,000 is expected to increase by 153,000. Questions on intensification of housing, industry, commercial services, parks and other facilities all need to be reevaluated with respect to this projected growth. The Area General Plan accomplishes three primary objectives: (1) it analyzes the implications inherent in three alternative plan concepts: 'dispersion,' 'corridors' and 'centers'; (2) it presents a long-range comprehensive general plan, projected to the year 1985, based on a modification of the centers concept; (3) it enumerates policy commitments and action programs necessary to implement the plan, with emphasis on techniques for improving coordination between the area's fifteen cities and many other organizational units affecting the environment. The accompanying Background Report identifies area planning problems and creates a base of information from which the ideas for the Area General Plan are generated. (Author)
