Rock Bolt Tests in U12g Tunnel Nevada Test Site
In conjunction with the design and construction of large underground cavities in tuffaceous rock at the Nevada Test Site, two series of tests were made on the behavior of rock-bolt assemblies. In the initial series of rock bolt tests was completed prior to excavation of the cavities. The second series of tests was performed in cavity U12g.06 during its construction. These tests were performed to monitor the overall effectiveness of the rock-bolt assemblies as constructed under normal working conditions in the cavity, and especially to gain further information on the effectiveness of the grouted Sulfaset anchorage as placed by the mining crews, and to determine the elongation and strength characteristics of the installed rock bolts.
