Water Wave Refraction/Diffraction/Shoaling Investigation, Crescent City, California
Because of inherent questions regarding the stability of various construction elements used in the original design and rehabilitation, and because of uncertainties which exist regarding the actual prototype wave climate existing at the damaged section of the breakwater, a detailed refraction/diffraction/shoaling analysis was made prior to the initiation of necessary breakwater repairs. This investigation was conducted by using a state-of-the-art numerical model (RCPWAVE) for describing nearshore wave transformation by underwater bathymetry. Results of this numerical investigation will be used to determine the design wave height for the breakwater repair at the damaged dolosse section, and this wave height also wil be used by WES in a physical model stability investigation of the rehabilitated breakwater. Originator-supplied keywords: Breakwaters, Breaking waves, Diffraction, Jetties, Numerical models, Physical models, Refraction, Shoaling, Water waves, Wave heights.
