In this paper, the performance of the core idea of building conservation in the specific design and planning was discussed through the in-depth understanding of William Sumner Appleton's architectural concept in building protection planning area. The protection organization constructed by appleton has the commercial management structure. the central branch office makes the unified and coordinated management, and the substantial innovation in the protection of specific ideas lies in the establishment of building protection archives. in the protection of ancient buildings in many cities, no precious repair images and specific repair process followed. therefore, the professional photographer is hired to carry on the whole shooting of rehabilitation work; this is part of the whole building protection work. figure 3 shows the record of its professional team. 3.2 Influence of William Sumner Appleton's protection concept The vision of building protection is expanded, and the basic standards of building protection are set to form the standardized steps and methods of protection for the protection work. as the event goes on, the methods and steps are still remarkable. professional protection standard steps can enhance the construction of the protection of the project operation process and save a large number of endangered building groups. the management model provides a scientific and efficient management model for the future management of the construction protection organization, which is also applicable in future management. the preservation and protection of archives is a great pioneering work in the field of building protection, which fills the gap of evidence in the investigation and evidence collection of historical buildings. professional repair evidence provides the credibility for the archive of building repair documents to achieve the reversibility of repair process in the future. 4. case analysis of building renovation based on William Sumner appleton's protection concept 4.1 Case analysis of building repair and renovation - Architectural heritage conservation update of Shanghai World Expo One of the venues in the Shanghai World expo was located in the area of industrial buildings to achieve the sustainable development of the city. the original design idea was to ensure the civilization of industrial buildings and achieve the integration of the cultural concept of World expo to integrate the urban development events into building conservation to maintain the original concept. figure 4 shows the distribution of architectural heritage and the zoning map of World expo site. The concept of "four belts and fifteen parks" was adopted in the landscape design. a wet zone was constituted in the wetland areas, and the two sides of the sparse forest zones were set in the forest areas. the road was divided by fifteen courtyards that were designed to constitute an excellent artistic partition and show the structure of space plus courtyard in space. during the World expo, the most impressive was the "expo Stage," its predecessor was the Shanghai iron and steel third factory. this group of buildings recorded the history of Shanghai's manufacturing industry for over a century. architectural planning needed to achieve the sustainable development on the basis of maintaining its original appearance. the ladle structure in the workshop and the thickness of the steel plate rolling mill were preserved. figure 6 shows the scene after the planning and construction. 4.2 Discussion The artistic value of the building itself and the commercial value of the lot itself are the important indicators of planning and development.
