Assessment of Shear Strength of Circular Reinforced Concrete Beams
Solanki and Patel presented an interesting paper on shear strength of reinforced concrete circular beams. They have considered the ACI 318-14 philosophy to their paper even though they knew that the ACI philosophy is conservative for the shear strength of rectangular beams; however, they suggested a correction factor for the shear strength of shear reinforcement based on the Reference 11 concept without evaluating the entire ACI philosophy for the shear strength of circular beams. It appears that the authors are unaware of the several theoretical and experimental publications on the shear strength of circular reinforced concrete beams.
