A study of the deformative properties of the rock foundations of hydraulic structures
Conclusions Static and dynamic tests of the deformative properties of a foundation should be carried out with consideration of the characteristics of the proposed structure and the possible state of stress of the rock mass in this case. For an evaluation of the indices of deformability of the rock mass the results of static investigations (plate experiments) should be regarded as point results, which are interpreted together with the data of dynamic investigations with consideration of the geologic structure of the mass. The deformability of a rock mass can vary in different directions and should be established with consideration of the direction of the external loads on the structure. The calculated values of the dynamic modulus of elasticity must be determined with consideration of the elevation of the reference plane and stress in the foundation.Between the static modulus of deformation of the foundation and dynamic modulus of elasticity one can establish a relation in the form $ E_{st} $=f(E′d, E″d), where E′d and E″d are the dynamic moduli of elasticity of the foundation for an unloaded and loaded state of the rock mass respectively.
