Effect of the age of concrete used in hydraulic structures on its strength and deformative properties in compression
Conclusions The strength of the concrete in the investigated structures increases with time, which can be expressed by a rectilinear logarithmic relation. With an increase of age (strength) of concrete Poisson's ratio decreases and the modulus of deformation increases. The character of failure of concrete changes with increase of age (strength). In the investigated old concretes in comparison with the new concrete the limits of microcracks σCO and σCV increase considerably, deformations develop at a great rate, and failure ensues soon after reaching the limit σCV. The change in the strength and deformation properties of concrete with an increase of its age in hydraulic structures is due to complex physicochemical processes in its structure during long hardening.
