Reconstruction of the surge tank of the Sengilei hydroelectric station
Conclusions In the designs of surge tanks of hydrostations put into operation more than 25–30 years ago there are substantial margins for a rise and fall of the level, which are a consequence of simplified modeling of the transient processes. The use of modern mathematical models and computers makes it possible to reveal the indicated margins and to use them both in the framework of increasing the installed capacity of hydrostations and broadening their regulating possibilities and when reconstructing the surge tanks themselves.Modernization of the surge tank of the Sengilei hydrostation confirmed the possibility, in principle, of converting from the design of the differential type with an inside standpipe to a more simple design with additional resistance in the form of a ring diaphragm, which made it possible to reduce severalfold the cost and time of reconstruction work.
