Summary The report gives consideration to the scale of the impact of man on the upper portein of lithosphere and in this regard the notion “geological environment” is given. The hydrotechnical construction can adversely affect the geological environment. The evidence of this is the initiation of earthquakes during reservoir construction, breakage of reservoir slopes and a feasible malfunctioning of adjoining territories, acceleration of erosional processes under irrigation, wash-out of sea beaches, pollution of natural waters. It is expeditious to treat these problems at more specific international symposia.
