Procedure and techniques of long-term seismic and seismologic observations along the underwater profile on the bottom of the inguri reservoir
Summary An underwater observation network has been arranged in the area of the Inguri Hydroelectric Power Station in the Caucasus in order to investigate the effect of the storage reservoir on the dynamics of deformation processes in the reservoir bottom. The seismic detectors and seismometers were installed in watertight containers in the deepest part of the reservoir along a line traversing the tectonic faults of this area. It is planned to carry out observations of dynamic and kinematic features of propagation of waves resulting from test blasts and to record possible earthquakes caused by the creation of the reservoir over a number of years. According to the results of test shooting made at regular intervals of time, the increase of the apparent velocity in the hodograph after the start of the reservoir filling and amplification of the fault reflecting power were observed. The experience gained in arrangement of the underwater network will be useful in the organization of similar observation systems.
