Suspended Structures of Revolution with Lightweight Skin
The formfinding and the geometric characteristics of suspended structures of revolution with a lightweight skin made, for example, of fabrics or rope nets to which components of glass fibre reinforced plastics, aluminium alloy or plastics foils are fastened, are considered. Parametric equations for the meridians of surfaces of revolution with negative Gauss curvature are derived and a combined numerical and graphical method is suggested. The method of calculation of meridian lengths, areas and volumes of new shapes of suspended structures with a lightweight skin is presented.
