Some results of the 40-year operation of the academician G. O. Graftio Lower Svir hydroelectric station
Conclusions 1. The foundation for the construction of large hydroelectric stations in our country on large lowland rivers on nonrock foundations was laid by the construction of the Lower Svir station according to the original design. The technical decisions made in constructing the station were subsequently used widely in the practice of Soviet hydraulic construction. 2. During 40 years of operation the hydraulic structures of the Lower Svir station have operated reliably and stably. The settlements of the structures have stabilized, and the seepage characteristics correspond to the design characteristics. 3. At the station large-scale work has been performed on modernizing and reconstructing the equipment and structures and on automation and telemechanization, major research has been carried out, and suggestions implemented which have increased the efficiency of the station, the capacity and the production of electric energy, and improved its manipulation.
