Temperature and Displacement Variations of Monitored Integral Bridges
This paper deals with the long-term monitoring of Haavistonjoki Bridge (2003–2011) and Myllypuro Overpass (2008–2013). The monitoring yielded new information about the behaviour of integral bridges. The temperature variations of the superstructure and displacements of bridge abutments are explored and compared in this paper.
Both bridges showed that the displacements were uneven between abutments due to thermal expansion and concrete shrinkage and creep. The most probable reason for the uneven displacement was different soil properties between the bridge abutments. This has been found to be one of the most important aspects when guidelines and quality requirements are prepared for practical use.
