Performance Comparison on Water Demand Methods Applied at Pengkalan Gawi, Kenyir Lake, Malaysia
Every day, demand and supply of water resources rises along with the urbanisation, population, and technological advancement. The situation has brought up the needs to explore water demand of an area for the water authority to supply enough water to the people. The objective of the research is to compare the performance of Micro-Component Analysis (MCA) and National Water Service Commission (SPAN) Guideline with actual water demand implied at Pengkalan Gawi, Kenyir Lake, Terengganu, Malaysia. Actual water consumption and forecasted water consumption (MCA and SPAN Guidelines) are used to evaluate the performance accuracy. The method used to compare the performance of the models is statistical analysis of Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD), Mean Square Error (MSE) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). As a result, MCA produced statistical indices of MAD, MSE and RMSE of 28.32, 2165.89 and 46.54, respectively. Meanwhile, SPAN Guidelines resulted with 58.42, 17,128.23 and 130.87 of MAD, MSE and RMSE. The study conclude that MCA has better accuracy with lower value of statistical indices compared to the other model and eventually assist the water authorities in constructing sensible water plans for the area of same geographical state using the respective technique.
