Towards a Resilience Framework for Urban Zimbabwe
The study seeks to develop a resilience framework that is for sustainable urban cities of Zimbabwe. The urban areas of Zimbabwe are riddled with many problems that include urban sprawl, shortage of water, poor service delivery and urban poverty, among others. These problems have degraded the expected standards of the urban areas and hence steps need to be taken to eliminate them and transform urban areas into world first class cities. The concept of resilience framework is a key phenomenon in the 21th century and has been implemented in most developed countries, such as the United States of America and many European countries. Developing countries have also started to adopt this idea in an attempt to develop their countries and cities. The study was done by reviewing the already existing secondary records and a number of case studies were analysed and debated in this paper. The framework will design solutions that will lead to improvement of the quality of living standards, services delivery and a high GDP per capital and clean urban areas. It can be argued that the resilience framework is capable of handling the situation that is being faced by urban areas of Zimbabwe and may give solutions that are sustainable. Its formulation with regard to the situation of Zimbabwe’s urban areas is very crucial. Therefore, the formulation of the resilience framework for urban Zimbabwe will lead to the creation of the expected qualities of urban cities. It is recommended that major steps should be taken to bring successful implementation of this framework in shaping the urban areas of Zimbabwe.
