A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
In response to the increasing global prevalence of food insecurity, unhealthy eating habits, and the fact that food must travel from afar to reach consumers which raises the rates of carbon emissions, this chapter explores design concepts that promote urban agriculture (UA). It first discusses the challenges of the current food system, examines how to create and locate edible landscapes, outlines the best places for farmers’ markets and food exchanges, and concludes with guidelines for ways of incorporation into urban design practices.
