Parametric Study on the Performance of Temporary Secant Pile Wall
The commuting in the urbanized cities in India is becoming very difficult due to heavy traffic and dense population. To overcome this, elevated and underground metros play a significant role in reaching the farthest point in a city with less time. However, as mentioned, urbanized cities are densely populated and have land constraints, the choice of elevated metros is reducing gradually, and construction of underground has significantly increased. The construction of underground metros is governed majorly by construction methodology and type of retention systems to be used. This paper particularly focuses on the temporary secant pile walls. Secant pile walls are constructed in a row of overlapping primary unreinforced plain cement concrete with low strength piles and secondary reinforced concrete piles with relatively high strength bored piles. This paper is focusing on the performance of secant pile wall due to various parameters like diameter of secant pile, overlapping distance of primary and secondary piles, material of pile, drained and undrained conditions of the soil, and struts and anchor configuration using finite element analysis. The entire finite element analysis is carried out in WALLAP, commercially available software widely used for the deep excavation metro problems. The main objective of this study is to predict the behavior of secant pile in terms of wall displacement, wall bending moment, shear forces, and strut and anchor loads on the secant pile wall based on the above parameters. The result of this study shows that increase in the diameter, interlock between primary and secondary piles, and depth of embedment decrease the wall displacement and increase the magnitude of bending moment.
