Abstract S wave (Secondary wave) is a propagation of shear deformation that arrives at earthquake observation stations after (second to) the Primary body wave (P wave, see Sect. 4.2). Since S wave generates a significant magnitude of horizontal motion at the ground surface, it is considered to be the most important cause of seismic damage.
