Damming of the Vakhsh River and discharge during construction at the site of the nurek hydroelectric plant
Conclusions 1. A spread-type upstream cofferdam of local materials with broadened intermediate zones and lengthened blanket, and the blasting method of damming with simultaneous construction of the underwater part of the cofferdam by collapsing pre-stockpiled earth into the river canyon were accomplished for the first time in the construction of the Nurek hydroelectric plant. 2. The new design of the cofferdam and the new method of damming a large mountain river with simultaneous construction of the entire underwater part of this structure completely proved themselves. 3. These solutions can be used in many instances of “high” damming of narrow channels of mountain rivers with rocky banks and'an alluvial bed. 4. In a number of instances the two-stage system of damming, offering additional advantages, can also be used.
