Mechanical Properties of GGBS Based Concrete Added with CO2 as Mineral Admixture
In the current scenario, there is an urgent need for the removal of industrial wastes and gases to prevent pollutants from harming the environment. This paper presents the mechanical properties of M20 grade concrete with CO2 ranging from 0.3−1.2% by weight of binder, added as mineral admixture. The mechanical characteristics such as compressive strength, flexural strength and split tensile strength of Ground Granulated Blast furnace Slag (GGBS)-based concrete with 60% GGBS as a replacement for cement and CO2 as an additive were determined. When 0.9% CO2 was mixed with fresh GGBS based concrete, it not only enabled storing of CO2 as a solid calcium carbonate phase, but also enhanced the mechanical characteristics of concrete.
