A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
In this Chapter, the acoustics of classrooms is considered in depth, using as a guide the principles outlined in Part 2. Criteria and recommendations for background sound levels, intruding sound, reverberation and speech intelligibility are discussed and compared with measured values reported in real classrooms. Research relating to the impact of classroom acoustics on teachers and students is described, and best practice for acoustic design is summarised.
