Protection of Adjacent Infrastructures
In the past, with shallower excavations, the influence of excavation on the surrounding environment was not so significant. Recently, with increase of excavation depth and scale in urban areas, the magnitude and extent of ground settlement increases, which frequently damages the adjacent buildings and infrastructures. This chapter contains studies on interactions between braced excavations and urban infrastructure systems including the slope, piles, buildings, and tunnels.
